Each town has a visitor information center with lots of Information; local crafts and gifts for sale.  Pop in to discover all the possibilities of the region. St George is the major town of the Balonne Shire, it is situated on the Balonne River in southern inland Queensland.  The district population is 3,800 people. 
The town is renown for it's beautiful country gardens, streetscapes and river walkway. The riverside walk can be entered from The Terrace (St Georges Terrace) via cement footpaths. Sunrise and Sunset are particularly nice times to enjoy the atmosphere of the river gums, landscaping and birdlife.
 
Local weather  - mostly it's sunny.  You can expect hot summer days (34.2 + degrees) and cold winter nights (5.5 - degrees). In this region, rainfall is highly variable, our annual average is 516 mm with more rainfall during the summer months. The weather pattern is one of droughts and flooding rains.
 
The night skies are an astronomer's dream. Big dark skies lit up with a brilliant array of stars, including the Southern Cross and the Milky Way.

Quality education and health services are available. These include childcare, preschools, primary schools and high school.  Health services include two medical centres, hospital, allied health services, visiting specialists, a healthy ageing program, community care and a retirement village.  A variety of shopping is available with large grocery stores - Foodworks and IGA, a great bakery and wonderful coffee shops.

A full range of lifestyle and sporting activities are available. Team sports - football of various codes, cricket, bowls, triathlon and netball. Individual sports - tennis, squash and golf. Horse sports - races, pony club, campdrafting and polocrosse are available. 
 
The district has a strong agricultural base with irrigated and broadacre cropping, grazing livestock and irrigated horticulture amongst the local industries.
